Frequently Asked Questions
How do I import contacts?
Basically, there are 3 routes into the system. You can generate a Newsletter form and capture customers as they visit your website. These contacts are automatically imported into your contacts list. Secondly, you can upload a .csv file by clicking on Sources and selecting the Upload CSV tab. Please ensure you read the 'CSV Format Guidelines' before you attempt an upload. The third method is to import contacts from your website - click on Sources and select the Website tab.
How do I configure for sending emails?
Out of the box, SEMC is designed to use WordPress's native email sending platform, wp_mail(). This means that you should be able to send your emails without configuring anything. You can test this by navigating to the Settings page and clicking on the Email Delivery tab. You will find a 'Send Test Email To Admin' button located near the top of the page which will send a short test message to the websites registered admin email address. After sending, you will get a success notice at the top of the page indicating that your email has been sent using wp_mail(). If you receive the email, then your campaigns should also send without any further configuration. If you prefer, you can configure for SMTP by entering your own server details on the same page and switching from wp_mail() to SMTP in the Email Transport drop-down list (the very first field). Sending a test email to Admin, this time (assuming you have provided the correct details), will result in your success notification changing to indicate that you have sent your test email using SMTP. Our system is designed to send email using wp_mail() as a back-up in the event of incorrect SMTP configuration.
How do I create a contact list?
To create a contact list, simply navigate to the Sources page and click on the Lists tab. You will be presented with a table of existing lists. At the top, click 'Add New'. Give your new list a name and a brief description, so you can distinguish it from other lists. The name field is a required field and must be unique. The description field is not required , but highly recommended. Your customers will never see these fields, they are for list management purposes only.
Will my data be deleted if I ininstall the plugin?
By default, No. The reason being is that you are storing peoples personal contact details and records of what you have done with them. This information should not be deleted lightly, not without considering your responsibilities in regard to GDPR. Just because you stop campaigning, doesn't mean to say that you didn't campaign. SEMC thinks it prudent that this information is retained within your database on uninstalling the plugin, to cover yourself in the event of future queries, enquiries or disputes. Having said this, we have provided an option to delete all database data on uninstall, should you decide this is better for you. Navigate to the Settings page → General Settings tab and you will see uninstall options in the left-hand side menu. Select the option to delete 'All' data; save; then uninstall the plugin. Please note that any .csv files that you have uploaded, are not deleted on uninstall. These must be explicitly removed by yourself and reside in your WordPress 'Uploads' folder.
What happens when a contact unsubscribes?
All emails sent using Saxon Email Marketing Center will include a mandatory 'Unsubscribe' link embedded into the footer of the email allowing the recipient to unsubscribe from the list associated with the Campaign that generated the email. What happens when the 'Unsubscribe' link is clicked depends on whether you have our Pro add-on installed and activated. Basic 'Unsubscribe' action: The email recipient clicks on the link and simply gets taken to a page on your website that's generated by SEMC displaying a confirmation message indicating that they (the recipient) have been unsubscribed from the list that generated the email. You do not need to do anything - the contact will automatically be unsubscribed from the email list by our system. Enhanced 'Unsubscribe' action (Pro add-on): The email recipient clicks on the link and gets taken to their Email Preference Center. This is designed to keep the contact active by allowing them to unsubscribe from some lists, but stay subscribed to others. The contact has the option to selectively unsubscribe from lists that you deem suitable to show them, or, to unsubscribe from all and everything. If the contact is subscribed to a list named 'Vouchers and Coupons' for example, you'll find they are more likely to remain on your list(s). Again, you do not need to do anything, all unsubscriptions are automatically taken care of by our system.
How do I delete a contact?
The bottom line is, you can't. Our system records every event pertaining to a contact, from being added to a particular list to being sent an email via a given campaign. It'd get messy, really quickly if contacts with a recorded history trail, suddenly got deleted. Our recommended method of dealing with contacts that you wish deleted, is to simply 'Suppress' them. They will be 'greyed out' and hidden from your lists - keeping your lists nice and clean, free from junk and unusable contacts. By design, a 'Suppressed' contact is automatically excluded from being sent emails, whether they are on a list, or not - they are simply skipped by our system.
What are Sending Limits and how do I increase them?
Sending Limits are built-in safety controls that help protect your sending reputation and reduce the risk of deliverability problems. They control how many emails can be sent in a campaign, how many can be sent over a 24-hour period, and when Saxon Email Marketing Center asks for extra confirmation before a larger send. SEMC uses three campaigner levels: Starter: For newer senders who are still building audience confidence and mail server trust. Accomplished: Unlocked automatically once you have built a positive sending history through consistent, responsible campaigning. Expert: Unlocked automatically once you have demonstrated strong sending practices over time and built a trusted sending history. Your level increases automatically as your number of successful sends grows. You do not need to apply, upgrade, or contact support to progress. The best way to increase your limits is to keep sending responsibly, use good quality contact lists, and build a strong track record over time. If a campaign reaches a daily limit, Saxon Email Marketing Center will pause sending and resume automatically when capacity becomes available again.
